This is an interview with Virginia Tech’s office of sustainability coordinator, Emily Vollmer. Ms. Vollmer has been a part of the organization since 2017 and interned with the office before earning her current position. In the interview Ms. Vollmer speaks about the Office of Sustainability’s achievements, goals, and ideas about making Blacksburg an environmentally sustainable university and making for a better experience overall for students and faculty alike. Ms. Vollmer graduated from Virginia Tech in 2020 with a major in Environmental Resource Management.

The Office of Sustainability has existed at Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus since 2009 when it was first founded. Some of it’s more pressing matters in the coming years will be to address affordable housing in the Blacksburg area, as well as adding onto the transit system the town of Blacksburg already provides the university and its students. These improvements will help the VT office of sustainability follow through with its goals.
